The Maramba Cultural Village is one place where you can buy cheaper hand-carved crafts and curios. In addition to buying hand-carved crafts, you can also learn about the local Zambian culture.
Indeed, the Cultural Village plays a role as one of the strong selling points for tourism in Livingstone City, Zambia’s tourist capital.
The Village is a means of preserving local Zambian culture which continues to be threatened by urbanisation and western culture.
In readiness for the 2013 United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly which was co-hosted by Livingstone City (Zambia) and Victoria Falls Town (Zimbabwe), the Village underwent a major transformation.
A kitchen, multi-purpose theatre, restaurant, bar, outdoor stage, landscaping and external fencing were constructed at a cost of K 4.1 million. Construction works were undertaken by a Chinese firm Chao Chao Construction Limited.
The contract was not only about constructing the fore mentioned facilities, but also the completion of the Cultural Village.
The construction works enabled the cultural village to house all arts, crafts, traditional food cuisine and cultural activities.
